PRAKA is the channeling of designer Miuccia Prada in Panama City. PRAKA is a persona that embodies the PRADA’s DNA and remixes it with fashion trends and Panamanian pop culture or idiosyncrasy. It is half PRADA (unafraid, entrepreneurial, art lover, fashionista) and half RAKATAKA (in Panamanian pop-culture, ‘Person of improper behavior’, ‘low culture’ and ‘cheap outfits’).
During the Panama Fashion Week, performance live in collaboration with musician Kenny Man.
PRAKA is a performance piece focused on the influence of global brands such as PRADA. It asks the questions: What exchange is possible between the traditional fashion system, Milan and Panama? What happens when the ‘code’ is appropriated locally, when it is not ‘Gucci, ni Prada, Ni Fendi, Ni Louis Vuitton’ how Kenny Man’s tune expresses, but when it shows our hidden identities, our inner self that is using all these codes to express itself?
What if, instead of copying or envying, we evolve the inspiration and create a dialogue?
PRAKA was originally presented at 2019’s Milan Design Week in a workshop where participants explored how to personalize PRADA’s language. A 2:30 min video and a photo collaboration with RES and music by Kenny Man are part of the pieces.
